Vinyl Dollfie Dream Posing and Body Type

This post will be discussing Volks Dollfie Dream dolls, their basic construction, and poseability.

Dollfie Dream Sister type body. Notably stylized, but this allows the body to fit a wide variety of clothing and accessories.
The shell is made of soft vinyl, which can be stuffed with cloth or filling. Slits on the back of the knees allow the joint to bend.
Dollfie Dream dolls are articulated vinyl dolls with a hard interior skeleton, either plastic or metal. These are an anime-style line of dolls with a very, very wide variety of accessories and clothing available for them. This particular doll is 1/3 (54cm) scale, they are also available at 1/4 (MDD: Mini Dollfie Dream, 43cm). A well put-together Dollfie Dream has a commanding presence in comparison to other scales.
As with BJD (Ball-jointed dolls) and other similar dolls, Dollfie Dreams are sculpted to be anatomically correct. This is not unusual, but it may make for an awkward conversation for the uninitiated.
They pose like well-articulated collector’s dolls, featuring joints at the neck, torso, shoulders, elbows, wrists, thighs, knees, and ankles. The knees are single-jointed, the elbows can be adjusted to be double-jointed.
The elbow can be pulled out and used as a double-joint, or inserted fully for an aesthetically-pleasing single joint.
True to its name, Dollfie Dreams pose like a dream; how we’ve always wanted dolls to be able to pose!
The hard peg inside the foot prevents the doll from standing on one leg. This can be fixed with shoes!
This doll is made to be highly customizeable with different head and body options. As such, the plastic skeleton is made to be disassembled and arms will occasionally shuffle themselves out of their sockets during play.
Dollfie Dreams are usually considered on-topic for resin BJD forums because Volks is one of the original BJD companies. The sizing terminology SD, MSD, and YoSD refer to Super Dollfie (1/3), Mini Super Dollfie (1/4), and Young Super Dollfie (1/6 to ~1/8). This also applies to similar dolls such as Smart Dolls and Obitsu-type dolls.
*The definition of Ball-Jointed Dolls, in this context, refers to articulated dolls strung with elastic. The definition has expanded over the years, but many BJD forums are particular about this feature.
If you want to acquire one, there are a few things to be aware of:
Vinyl absorbs color, meaning dark-colored clothes can stain and discolor the material over long exposure. This can be remedied with rubbing alcohol, but in the case of deep stains:
Acne cream with Benzoil Peroxide will take the stain out over time when applied to the plastic. Apply generously and keep the cream moist. This process can take anywhere from weeks to months depending on the situation, but I’ve saved a ton of vinyl dolls with this stuff. One tube goes quite a long way.
The stock internal skeleton is ABS plastic, which is durable but not very flexible. Some high-stress joints are prone to cracking or breaking if force is applied in the wrong way.
1/3 Scale dolls take up quite a bit of space!
There are a ton of head, body, and hand options available for this line of dolls for limitless customization. Sometimes Volks acquires a license and creates an official doll of a particular character.
